There are many things in life that happen every day that are miraculous to behold that we seldom see because we do not take the time to see them. Today for FHE, we rented canoes and went out on Lake Washington to the arboretum. As we paddled along, we noticed a family of ducks residing in some lily pads. The ducklings would walk across the tops of the lily pads to get from place to place. I could have watched them for hours.
Another thing that was a miracle was the fact that Joseph made it to the activity. He was all the way over in White Center at 6:40 and didn't think he could arrive in time. But just as we were getting our boats, he sauntered in. I was so happy he could come, it made everything better.
I was in the boat with LeFrandt. I would tell him that I was the person steering and then get mad at him when he wasn't steering right. I'm sometimes really mean to Rich, he's a good guy.
As we rounded a bend, a large heron (is this a heron? Santos, do you know?) was standing on a log intently watching the water. I was so transfixed by how close we were to him that it took me by surprise when, all of a sudden, he lunged forward into the water and caught a fish.
Sharon was so cute, she kept telling me that she was going to bring her Eagle Scout to the activity and bring him she did. I watched Stan steer the boat and picked up some technique from him.
It was a gorgeous evening, we really couldn't have asked for a more perfect close to the day. We had a great attendance this time too. Last year it was only me, Nathanael and Gary in one boat. That was fun too because I got to be carted around like the Queen of Sheba.
The water was smooth as glass, a lot different from Saturday's kayaking adventure.
Ah ha! I love myself! I look much cuter in this canoeing picture than I did last year. I made sure to wear makeup this time.
Afterwards the Halls took us out for ice cream at Ben & Jerry's. What a great FHE, I'm so glad we took the time to see the greatness that is all around.

Looks like fun! I wanted to make it, but I didn't leave work till about 10 till 7 and didn't know where the boathouse was. Oh well, I wasn't really feeling all that well today anyway. I'll have to go out another day--it looks so gorgeous!
That looked like loads of fun. So beautiful, so quiet, so smooth. What a great time. Great pictures.
wow. i was there, and yet your blog entry make it look even better than it actually was. how is that possible?
(did you really take the picture of the blue heron, or did you pull that off the internet? hehehe).
Stacy, I thought about you on the water and wished you were there!
Kim, it wasn't as exciting as rough-riding it on Priest Lake though.
Joseph, it was that great. The heron was to the left right before we went under that wooden bridge. It was pretty cool!
I loved the photos and the commentary--especially the little ducklings walking on the lily pads!
roger that...
blue heron
over and out...
PS I wish our FHE activities involved more outdoor activities. We seem to only play circle games...
life jackets are very flattering on you--it's either that or boats/kayacks. you look so cute! too bad it's not socially acceptable to wear life jackets around town, or is it?
CINDY!!! It's a set-up. Don't move to Utah! It's just a trick to get you here so you can be as hot and dusty as the rest of us. Maybe Seattle is heaven and Utah is one to 7 rings of HELL? (How many rings of hell did Dante write for Beatrice?) Or maybe you just caught me on an off day.
Cammie, it's like they were little dancers. You would have loved them!
Santos, thanks! Try to find stuff you want to do and suggest it. Maybe you'll get lucky! Tell them you'll go on a guided nature walk, people LOVE that!
Brooklyn, I think it's that I'm out of my general environment of sitting in front of the computer. I get a healthy glow, sort of like when I'm around Carl.
But I get to work with Steeeeve, Andi, Steeeeeeeve!
Cindy - very cool. we're both sorry to have missed it, though we don't have a life vest for Jasper Lawrence yet.
So, I think it's a "great" blue heron, so don't go forgetting either its greatness or its blueness.
And that selfshot reminded me of how long its been since we watched Law & Order: SVU - you had a bit of an Olivia Benson look going on. That's meant as a compliment, in case it doesn't come across as such...you know, she balances hot and tough best among the Law & Order ladies.
Seriously...I wish my ward would all get together and do anything. And canoing? Amazing!
Rob, you could put Jasper in one of those hamster bubbles. Olivia Benson looks awesome! I'm going to have to start watching Law & Order.
Chloe Elizabeth, they don't always have giant get-togethers in Utah? I'm not going to move there now!
I saw that exact bird on my run yesterday and I couldn't figure out what it was. Thanks to you and Santos for helping me out!
